Hawaii - Big Island

October 2024 had one last adventure in store for us—a trip to Hawaii’s Big Island. We divided our time between the island’s two distinct sides, each offering unforgettable experiences.

The Journey Begins

The journey began on the lush eastern side in Hilo, where we hiked along the jungle-lined coast and braved the rain to reach a breathtaking waterfall. The tropical landscapes and vibrant vegetation created an immersive rainforest experience unlike any other.

Exploring the East Side

Hilo’s natural beauty was captivating. The jungle-lined trails led us through dense tropical foliage, with the sounds of native birds and the scent of rain-soaked earth surrounding us. Our hike to the waterfall was challenging but incredibly rewarding, offering a moment of pure serenity in nature’s embrace.

Kona - West Side Adventures

For the second half of our trip, we headed to Kona, where the highlights included snorkeling with graceful manta rays and witnessing some of the most spectacular sunsets we’ve ever seen. The clear turquoise waters and vibrant marine life made every underwater moment magical.

Manta Ray Snorkeling

Snorkeling with manta rays was an otherworldly experience. These gentle giants glided effortlessly through the water, their graceful movements a testament to the ocean’s wonders. The nighttime snorkel brought us face-to-face with these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

Spectacular Sunsets

Kona’s sunsets were nothing short of breathtaking. Each evening painted the sky in hues of orange, pink, and purple, creating a daily spectacle that reminded us of the island’s natural beauty. Watching the sun dip below the horizon over the Pacific Ocean became a cherished ritual.

Volcanoes National Park

The crown jewel of the trip, however, was Volcanoes National Park. Standing on the edge of the island’s volcanic history was a humbling and awe-inspiring experience that left us in awe of nature’s raw power. The vast lava fields and active craters told the story of the island’s dramatic formation.

The volcanic landscapes were stark and beautiful, a reminder of the powerful forces that shaped this incredible island. Walking through fields of hardened lava and observing the steam rising from active vents was both thrilling and humbling.

Island Beauty

Throughout our time on the Big Island, we were constantly reminded of its diverse beauty—from lush rainforests to stark volcanic terrain, from vibrant coral reefs to golden sunsets. Each day brought new discoveries and unforgettable moments.

Our time on Hawaii’s Big Island was a perfect blend of adventure and tranquility. From the lush eastern rainforests to the dramatic volcanic landscapes, from the underwater world of manta rays to the stunning sunsets of Kona, every moment was a celebration of nature’s incredible diversity and power.

This adventure reminded us of the importance of exploring both the land and sea, of embracing both adventure and moments of quiet reflection. The Big Island truly offers something for every type of traveler, and we’re grateful for the memories we created there.
