Valle de Guadalupe

In June 2023, we embarked on a journey to the heart of Mexico’s wine country: Valle de Guadalupe. This region, located just south of the border in Baja California, has quickly become one of our favorite destinations for its unique blend of rustic charm and sophisticated culinary experiences.

Getting There

Our trip began with a flight into Tijuana International Airport (TIJ). After a quick and easy process through customs, we picked up our rental car and hit the road. The drive down the coast on Highway 1 is absolutely stunning, with the Pacific Ocean on one side and the rugged Baja landscape on the other. Within about 90 minutes, we were winding our way into the valley.

Wineries and Incredible Views

The valley is home to over 100 wineries, ranging from large, established estates to small, experimental boutiques. We spent our days hopping between tastings, each offering a different perspective on the region’s terroir. One thing that stayed consistent throughout was the incredible views—vineyards stretching out toward rocky mountains under a clear blue sky.

The architecture in the valley is also a highlight; many wineries use sustainable materials and modern designs that blend seamlessly into the natural environment.

A Culinary Adventure

While the wine is the main draw, the food in Valle de Guadalupe is arguably just as impressive. The concept of “Baja Med” cuisine is alive and well here, focusing on fresh, local ingredients. We had some of the most amazing seafood—freshly caught from the nearby coast—expertly prepared over open flames.

Dining in the valley is often an outdoor affair, allowing you to soak in the atmosphere and the cool evening breeze as the sun sets over the hills.

Valle de Guadalupe in June was a dream. The combination of warm days, cool nights, and the vibrant energy of the valley made it a trip to remember. If you’re looking for a getaway that combines adventure, relaxation, and world-class dining, this is the place.
